FAQ: When to Hire a Birth Doula?

Yay! You’re considering a doula! Wondering when to hire one? Most clients book birth doula services around their 20th week of pregnancy; although, we do have clients who book earlier (around 15/16 weeks) and some who book later (around 29/30+ weeks). Birth doulas are not just for support during labor and there are benefits to securing your birth doula earlier in your pregnancy.

A few benefits to booking early:

We take a small number of birth clients a month so we can provide personalized services to each client. Inquiring early and securing your due date will guarentee you have support lined up for the big day! (And it is one less thing to worry about as the weeks fly by and you are consumed with all.the.other.things that require your attention.) We always recommend to get it done early and get it out of the way!

Our doulas love building important relationships with clients and that is difficult–although not impossible–to do in just a few short weeks. When you book early in your pregnancy, your doula is available to you for anything pregnancy and labor related. That means you have a professional at your fingertips for the duration of your pregnancy and she’s ready to help you sift through all the advice, suggestions, options, and manage the stress that comes with having a baby. This is all part of our job as your doula. Utilize us!

Prepare for the unexpected by booking sooner rather than later–we’re on call for you the moment you become a client whether that is 16 weeks or 20 weeks. According to the APA, premature labor occurs in about 12% of all pregnancies and other situations can pop up unexpectedly. Having your doula available can help ward off stress and ease any concerns you may have.

If you’re looking to make payments towards doula services, booking early will allow for more flexibility. While we do require a small retainer fee upfront to secure your due date, we are happy to accept reasonable payment plans. Be sure to let us know if you’re interested in utilizing a payment plan.

When you’re ready to learn more about our services, let us know! It is never too early to start planning and we offer complimentary consultations.
